Packt Publishing announced on 14th November 2006 that Joomla! was the the winner of the 2006 Open Source Content Management System Award.
With 16,000 votes for more than 70 different Open Source Content Management Systems nominated for the award, Joomla! was judged winner of the final. After eight weeks of voting from visitors to www.PacktPub.com and judges from The Open Source Collective, MySQL, the Eclipse Foundation, and CMSPros, Joomla! triumphed with the most votes, winning $5,000.
Joomla! is the youngest CMS of the five finalists having originated by the then Mambo development team in August 2005. Joomla! was chosen due to its ease of installation and use along with the active development and community that supports the project. Core team member Alex Kempkens said the award was a wonderful surprise. "I would personally like to thank Packt for their contribution to the Joomlasphere — by publishing Joomla! guides and by running such a successful competition," he said.
Alex added that Joomla's winning ways should also be attributed to the excellent work of Hagen Graf as author of the book published by Packt. "Open source software writing is not an easy task and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Hagen and all of the other authors who contribute to publishers and make these books available for the community." |

 The Joomla! logo consists of the logotype and the mark. The mark represents what Joomla! is about...a community coming together as one. The mark is made up of four "J's" rotated and linked together that represent the community coming together as one. This logo has been developed to promote high visibility of the mark balanced with clear legibility of the name. The relationship (size, positioning, etc.) of these elements should never be altered in any way.
Whenever possible, the logo should appear in it's full color horizontal gel version. When the gel version cannot be used, a solid color version is available. |

If you've read anything at all about Content Management Systems (CMS), you'll probably know at least three things: CMS are the most exciting way to do business, CMS can be really, I mean really, complicated and lastly Portals are absolutely, outrageously, often unaffordably expensive.
Joomla! is set to change all that ... Joomla! is different from the normal models for portal software. For a start, it's not complicated. Joomla! has been developed for the masses. It's licensed under the GNU/GPL license, easy to install and administer and reliable. Joomla! doesn't even require the user or administrator of the system to know HTML to operate it once it's up and running. |
